Seth Godin points to that
familiar place where past
success all but insures future decline.
First something is “edgy”.
Then it’s accepted.
Then it’s pursued by the masses.
Then it’s engraved in
Once it’s in stone, nothing can change it.
If you own the stone, you
worship it. Nothing can compete with it
for your attention.
Something has to come along and shatter it into a million pieces.
As the owner, you will rarely
be the one that does that. You have too
much to lose.
That’s why radical change from the inside is nearly impossible.
Can it happen?
Sure, but I bet you can count the times it has happened on your fingers – and you won’t need all of them.
